another layout share today and for once it isn’t totally pink! don’t get used to it HA!
i have long wanted to use a cut file from TheCutShoppe on etsy, owned by the lovely Ashley Horton and when i saw a tutorial on you tube i saw the perfect one for a photo that i have of the frillies. the file is called ‘home for christmas’ and it’s full of rows of houses.
i haven’t used any of Ashley’s designs before so wasn’t sure about how to download it and pop in into my silhouette studio but i messaged her and she was so lovely, sending me a link to a tutorial that was so clear and easy – i sense this is the beginning of a new cut file love affair!
when i went to cut the paper i decided to use a patterned paper from the crate paper hello love collection – oh boy, i found this the hardest bit as i normally use white card, so i did a cut and decided i really didn’t like the paper as a whole cut, so ran another paper through the machine and much preferred my final choice. now i didn’t want to waste the original cut so you can see on the layout that there are a few different houses with arrows on and this was the original cut, i just chose some houses at random and overlaid them with the arrow paper.
>>>TIP<<< if you have a fuse tool at all, it comes with a metal ruler – this makes THE perfect tool to remove all the tiny pieces of paper that remain on the mat after you have removed your shape – seriously made my life a LOT easier HA!
now i love a bit of sparkle so i broke out my stash of glitter card and backed all the little windows and doors in various shades, these just helped to add another texture and made them pop.
for the background i chose a dark teal colour textured card and i LOVE this colour. popping the cut file up on dimensional foam pads for more shadows and interest.
finally i chose to back the photo’s with a simple vellum with teeny gold triangles (i can’t remember what collection this is from) this was because i didn’t want the layout to get too fussy. i wanted to make a kind of ‘route’ – like on a child’s game – using various wood veneer in the shape of arrows which i inked with a chalk ink pad in blue and placed between the two photo’s, linking them together. i popped a couple of gold arrows on each photo too.
here are the arrows, i love how they turned out….
here is the final layout….
i hope you like it, please have a look at Ashley’s shop in the link above, it’s great!
’til next time….
